The face has an extensive network of veins and tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Over time, aging, trauma, sun exposure, and other external factors cause a number of them to break, appearing as red streaks or blotches on the face. Laser-light therapy can eliminate these damaged/broken veins and capillaries, removing traces of these unsightly blemishes.
Unsightly Spider veins and varicosities are common problems for both men and women. Patients would often come for treatment due to cosmetic reasons and/or symptoms of pain and discomfort.
What causes varicose and spider veins?
Poor venous circulation or blood flow in the veins can lead to varicose veins. A weakness of valves in the vein walls can also cause pooling of blood, an increase in the volume of blood in the veins thus leading to ugly and noticeable spider veins.
Common factors include:
- Sedentary Lifestyle - Always sitting or lying down, with little or no physical activities.
- Prolonged Standing
- Weight Gain
- Pregnancy - because of the weight burden
- Diseases - such as phlebitis or inflammation of the veins, blood clots, congenital abnormalities of the veins
Symptoms of varicose veins
- Pressure Sensation
- Formation of a blood clot within the varicose vein
- Skin Ulceration
- Oozing Dermatitis
- Hourglass appearance
Sclerotherapy remains the primary treatment for the small-vessel varicose disease of the lower extremity. It is a simple in-office procedure administered by a trained-physician. Patients who are assessed to benefit from this procedure will undergo very small, tolerable injections of the sclerosing solution onto the veins. Followed by the application of compression bandages and later compression stockings to prevent recurrence and pigmentations. Home instructions and schedule of follow up treatments will be given depending on the severity of the vein problems.
